Habitat For Humanity Of Waukesha County Inc

Who We Are

Mission Statement: Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Vision: A world where everyone has a safe, decent place to live

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that has helped to build over one million decent, affordable houses and served five million people worldwide. More than two billion people live in slum housing around the world, and 100 million are homeless. Although Waukesha County is considered a richer county, there is still a strong housing need in our own backyard for lower-income families who need an affordable place to live, and there are many people who work in Waukesha County that cannot afford to live here. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner partner families. In addition to monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

What We Do

Home Builds- Completing new or rehab home construction for first-time homeowners who cannot afford or qualify for a home through traditional avenues. We are able to build throughout Waukesha County depending on availability of land.

Home Repair Program- Completing necessary home repairs or revitalization for existing homeowners who are low-income, veterans or seniors. Examples include installing a ramp to make a home handicap-accessible, updating a bathroom to make it safe for a senior citizen to use, etc...

ReStore- The ReStore (located at 2120 E. Moreland Blvd.) accepts donated new/gently used furniture, appliances, cabinetry, lighting, tools, building and construction materials, etc... and sells them at a fraction of the retail. This helps community members undergo home repair or revitalization at more affordable costs, reduces landfill use by encouraging reuse, recycling and repurposing, and most important, raises fund for Habitat to build more homes in Waukesha County.

Advocacy- Partnering with our corporate and community connections, Habitat homeowners and local governments to advocate for affordable housing in Waukesha County.
