The Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program model is a proven best practice for positive youth development. By providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships, Big Brothers and Big Sisters change the lives of their Little Brothers and Little Sisters for the better, forever. Since its origination in 1974, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ozaukee (BBBS) has operated as a prevention-focused, youth development organization offering positive, broad-based mentoring programs that focus less on specific problems after they occur, and more on meeting youth's most basic developmental needs. The organization's affiliation with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) enhances the qualifications of BBBS to meet organizational goals and in so doing, positively impact the educational and social development of at-risk youth in Ozaukee County. BBBS draws guidance from BBBSA established and accredited uniform set of standards and procedures, as well as training and consultation from the national office. The organization's prevention-based programs are carefully administered by rigorous standards and trained personnel, and evaluated according to nationally established methods.
