Do you possess skills in data entry, have good social skills, and take pleasure in assisting others? Consider volunteering to help low-income clients prepare their Federal and State income tax returns through a FREE Tax Preparation Program! In this role, tax preparers will work directly with clients to prepare their tax returns. Volunteers in the Tax Preparer role must also complete IRS certifications. Training sessions are provided at our site to assist with these certifications.

La Casa de Esperanza's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program aims to support low-income individuals and families in claiming all the tax credits they are entitled to. These households often rely on their tax refunds to pay for essential services like utilities, medical bills, and other fundamental needs.

All volunteers in the VITA program will become IRS-Certified. La Casa provides FREE training for each volunteer, and our staff will be available to support you at all times. Volunteers are needed for a commitment of 3+ hours per week from Monday to Saturday, between 8:00 am and 7:30 pm.

Assistance with organization, data entry, telephone handling, processes, procedures, and registration for special events and planning is available.

Volunteers in this role are tasked with welcoming clients to their tax appointments, making copies of their tax documents and identification cards, guiding clients through the completion of their intake forms ensuring all questions are answered and delivering the files to the tax preparers for review. Intake Screener volunteers must obtain certifications through the IRS, and our site provides training sessions to assist with this certification process.

At La Casa de Esperanza's VITA program, we offer free tax preparation services to individuals and families with low-to-moderate income, providing a pathway to financial stability by utilizing tax refunds for savings, debt reduction, and asset acquisition (such as a car, home, or improved credit). Additionally, we serve as a gateway to other community resources. The role can be performed either in-person or virtually.

We are seeking volunteers for projects at La Casa de Esperanza Village apartments, which serve low-income seniors and individuals with mobility impairments.

On June 19th, we had wonderful volunteers, but they were unable to complete the roofing of the pergola due to time constraints. We now require assistance with installing the roof sheeting and shingles. Additionally, we need help replacing the shingles on the dumpster area to match the pergola and removing an old piano from the community room.

Assistance is needed for cleaning and organizing both indoor and outdoor areas. We manage multiple facilities, and the role would entail approximately 5-10 hours of work per week. There is also potential for direct hire as facility floaters.

La Casa de Esperanza's Center for Financial Stability offers programs encompassing Financial Stability, Employment, HUD Housing Counseling and Education Services, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), and Financial Wellness in the Workplace. These programs necessitate data entry to gather information essential for grant writing and program reporting.

The activities involved include tasks such as stuffing folders, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and performing basic data entry.

Join the mailing squad and help us get the job done with style and speed.  We will be folding, labeling, stuffing, sealing, and stamping mailers that will be sent off to over 3,000 prior year VITA clients.  La Casa's VITA - (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is where our agency prepares free federal and state income tax refunds for low-to-moderate income individuals and families.  These mailers share information about the upcoming tax season and how to prepare along with other valuable resources.

We will be preparing all the inserts for our mailer to get folks ready for tax season and more. 

In this role, volunteers will provide Spanish translation services for clients during tax preparation. REQUIREMENT: Proficiency in basic tax terminology is essential. Interpreter volunteers are also required to complete a Standards of Conduct assessment.

Through our VITA program, we offer complimentary tax preparation services to individuals and families with low-to-moderate income, facilitating financial stability by enabling them to use their tax refunds for saving, reducing debt, and acquiring assets such as cars, homes, and better credit. Additionally, we serve as a gateway to other community resources.
