Our Angel Shop is now over for another season! We need help packing up items to save for next year. Help us to pack, organize remaining supplies, clean-up scraps, etc. and if able move boxes to the other end of our Academy. 

Help a child shop and/or wrap and bag their perfect gifts for a special person or persons in their life. It's a heart warming experience! Please note: As part of our Child Protection Policies we will ask Individual Volunteers to complete a background check and volunteer application prior to volunteering.

ABOUT THE ANGEL SHOP: 

Purpose:  To allow children to be part of and develop the spirit of giving. Students in programs like these gain a true sense of pride and accomplishment from choosing a gift for another person independently from their family. 

How it works: SJA will collect donations of small gift items year around.

Our Early Childhood & K4-8th students will come in during a scheduled shopping time in December to shop for a gift for someone special in their life. Very young children will be assigned an angel helper to help them find just the right item.

Items will be priced at $1-$3. This allows children to be part of the process and spirit of giving and learn how to purchase items while keeping it very low cost to them.

They will also have the opportunity to wrap their gift on site with a volunteer.

Do you have items that you don't want, can't use and usually throw into a closet to collect dust? Did you purchase something on clearance, but now you didn't use it? Are you or do you know a business who would be willing to donate their final clearance items to us? Or do you just have some new or gently used items you're clearing out of the house? Please consider donating those new or gently used items to us.

In December 2026 we will hold our 6th Annual Angel Shop where Early Childhood & K4-8th students can shop for family members at $1-$5 a gift for that special someone in their lives. This allows them to be part of the process and spirit of giving. Students learn financial literacy skills, learn to independently shop, and they gain a true sense of pride and accomplishment from participating. We will be collecting items year round for children, teens, adult, and older adults (even Pets!).

So please start putting those bags together with that candle you didn't want or hand soap you can't use or the extra screwdriver set you have lying around, that too small wallet, ties, men's cologne, women's perfume, the adult coloring book that was supposed to be calming, but just isn't, soccer and sports items, baseball hats, etc. Additionally, we are also accepting donations of wrapping paper, gift bags, tissue paper, scotch tape, gift tags and bows and ribbons.

Make a real difference in a child’s life by becoming a volunteer youth tutor! We are seeking an academically focused volunteer to mentor and tutor elementary students (ages 6–13). In this role, you will work one-on-one with kids on homework and reading, lead fun learning games, and support educational activities—including exploring introductory AI tools in our clubs. Most importantly, you will help young learners build confidence and healthy study habits in a positive, encouraging environment. No formal teaching experience is required—just patience and a passion for helping students thrive!

Please note any potential social or emotional barriers to learning that may impact their academic performance. This is the first step of the volunteer application process. Before your first volunteer shift, you must complete the MCC application and have it processed with the MCC Volunteer Coordinator, Arlene Gonzalez. Generally, this process will take 1-2 business days after you submit your application.

The Disaster Disability Integration (DDI) Service Associate (SA) is an operational position and is temporarily assigned to a disaster relief operation (DRO) as part of the Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) Client Care Programs Team. DDI SAs support the mission of the American Red Cross by performing DDI program activities to ensure Red Cross DRO services are accessible for clients with disabilities and meet DDI program standards.

• Conducts accessibility surveys of Red Cross DRO service sites (e.g., evacuation centers, shelters, family assistance centers, etc.).
• Receives DDI referrals and conducts outreach to Red Cross clients who have unmet disaster-related disability needs or are experiencing access barriers to Red Cross services.
• Engages in the interactive accommodation process with Red Cross clients with disabilities experiencing access barriers to DRO services; including coordinating reasonable accommodation as appropriate.
• Assists Red Cross clients with disabilities with getting connected to disability and disaster recovery resources.
• Supports the DDI Supervisor and/or Manager with training the DRO Workforce on DDI program standards and disability accessibility best practices.
• Supports the coordination of Effective Communication services (e.g. video relay service (VRS), on-site interpreting, etc.).
• Educates the DRO workforce on Red Cross Effective Communication job tools.
• Educates the DRO workforce about service and emotional support animal best practices.
• Distributes DDI supplies (e.g. sensory kits, privacy dividers, etc.) and educates clients and DRO workforce on how to use the items.
• Collaborates with DRO activities (e.g. Sheltering, Health Services, Shelter Resident Transition, etc.) to deliver high-quality services.
• Maintains communication and collaboration with DDI Supervisor and/or Manager; including following escalation protocols as appropriate.
• Utilizes Red Cross Technology Systems (e.g. Microsoft Tools, SCIA, etc.) to perform key job responsibilities.

• Ensure work is carried out in alignment with Red Cross Fundamental Principles and within established guidelines.

This position supports the Regional Communications department. This opportunity requires participation in in-person activities and/or performing work in a Red Cross facility. Assist the Red Cross in delivering its mission by taking and sharing photos and/or video to showcase the Red Cross at work, both in disaster and non-disaster times.

During Disasters:

The Shelter Service Associate works in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Shelter Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Shelter Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

Responsibilities vary depending on assignment.

Local/Regional: Shift work determined by the scale of the relief operation; a minimum requirement of 8-12 hours per day during the disaster relief operation for multiple, consecutive days.

Beyond region: Minimum of 14 days working 8- or 12-hour shifts

Qualifications:

The purpose of Community Engagement and Partnerships (CEP) is to work with external organizations to build capacity, coordinate activities, integrate expertise, and provide channels to reach all disaster affected communities, particularly traditionally underserved populations. The role of this worker is to assist with the implementation of the CEP plan.

Qualifications:

The Recovery Services Client Care Program allows the Red Cross to rapidly meet disaster-caused needs by enabling clients to apply and receive financial assistance and/or community resources. The Client Care Program Service Associate supports the recovery of disaster affected individuals, households, and communities by providing referrals, advocacy, and financial assistance through RC Care (case management system).

Hope House of Milwaukee is looking for a photographer to help us capture our 4th annual Hope Harvest event. This special event will feature a panel of case managers and clients who will share insights and real-world solutions to homelessness in Milwaukee. Panel is followed by guided tours of Hope House’s St. Catherine’s of Hope—an important asset in combatting housing insecurity in Milwaukee. We're looking for someone who can help document the evening's energy!

Photos will be used in newsletters, reports, social media. We also have an ongoing need for photography assistance which can be built around your availability.

Help weed, clean, and plant in Hope House's backyard - After being closed to clients due to a program partners' space needs, we are reopening Hope House's backyard to make a peaceful, restorative space for families staying at Hope House's shelter. Looking for groups who want to get their hands dirty and are open to gardeners who want to lend their vision for a welcoming space!

We can work with your team's schedule most weekdays in September and October.

This opportunity is specifically for groups of 5-20 people. Next steps for this project include major weeding, laying landscape fabric and creating a gravel pathway, planting and mulching, and arranging new donated furniture on the patio.

• Support the annual workforce engagement goals, RDO objectives, and regional/chapter plan for volunteer engagement through participation in meetings and projects.

The Shelter Resident Transition (SRT) Service Associate (SA) is an operational position and is assigned temporarily, typically on level 4 and above disaster relief operations (DROs). SRT Caseworkers work with shelter residents to understand their resources and transition roadblocks to help households create an individualized action plan so that they can transition from the shelter to a more sustainable living solution. This position supports the mission of the American Red Cross by helping individuals and households more quickly transition from a shelter, thus alleviating human suffering by shortening the time of their disaster-caused displacement and jumpstarting their longer-term recovery.

Qualifications:

At Milwaukee Community Crossroads, you can make that moment happen by volunteering at our Technology Workshops for older adults aged 60 and over. Most of our participants speak English; we serve others with limited English. In general, they are all related in that they have little to no prior access to formal education, meaning your patience and guidance can truly open doors to life-changing digital confidence.

You do not need any formal teaching experience to make a difference here. We simply look for friendly, patient community members who are willing to sit side-by-side with learners, guiding them through basic tech skills at their very own pace. This is a deeply meaningful opportunity to build heartwarming cross-generational connections, give back to your local community, and see the immediate human impact of your kindness.

Assign new cases for disaster caseworkers to follow up. Monitor new case creations in the internal Red Cross system and assign them for follow up.  Keep track of casework case loads and availability.

This includes the collection and recording of impact and damage data and supporting Recovery Services with data interpretation.

Milwaukee Community Service Corps (MCSC) is seeking a friendly, dependable volunteer to assist with reception and basic administrative duties at our workforce training center. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people and wants to support an organization helping individuals gain job skills, industry-recognized credentials, and pathways to employment.

MCC’s Older Adults Center provides older adults 60+ a safe, welcoming place to stay connected, eat healthy, and be well. In addition to offering a healthy meal, the Older Adult Center hosts classes and events that enrich elders’ lives and strengthen connections. The center is operated in partnership with the Milwaukee County Department on Aging.

Please note that this is the first step of the volunteer application process. Purpose for Volunteer Position: Through a partnership with United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties, Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers serves as a community diaper hub on the near south side of Milwaukee for families with young children who are struggling to afford clean diapers. Emergency diapers are available to patients of the clinic and community members. As we transition this service from medical to community health, we are in need of a volunteer to assist us with coordination of these efforts.

Benefits to the volunteer: Volunteering provides an opportunity to build communication, planning and organizational skills, while improving access to necessities in a community based healthcare setting. This is a great resume builder for anyone interested in maternal and child health, community strengthening, social work, public health and others.

Duties of volunteer:
Coordinate diaper activities including:
-responding to phone inquiries/requests
-documenting diaper bank usage
-maintaining inventory
-assist with reporting and ordering
-connect diaper bank visitors to other resources as needed (via resource guide, referral pathways or other as time/need allows.
-prep diaper packs for pick up
-assist in the overall planning of activities and provide feedback regarding usage, improvement and client need.

Come to the urban farm on Friday mornings to harvest produce for the weekly Friday FarmStands! Harvest produce and assist with weighing and washing as we set up our distribution table.

Run the weekly Friday FarmStand from 12-3pm outside of the VGI Community Room! Collect patron information for database keeping and grant writing and reporting. Have conversations with patrons about how they might try a new recipe with a produce item, tell them about upcoming events, and make a positive impact on their day!

Join the City of Waukesha's Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department to build a playground! If you or your group would like to volunteer all day, please sign up for both the morning and afternoon shifts. Come alone, with your neighbors or with a group and help to assemble, place, and complete one of Waukesha's newest playgrounds.  There are tons of fun features to keep the kids having fun.

Join us for a planting project along the Frame Park River Corridor! We'll be adding vibrant allium bulbs to a variety of planter beds as we move along a scenic 1.7-mile stretch of the river. Volunteers will help plant bulbs at several stops along the path, creating colorful blooms that will flourish in the seasons ahead. Volunteers must be at least 18.

Buckthorn, particularly common and glossy buckthorn, is a highly invasive plant in Wisconsin, posing significant threats to native ecosystems. Introduced as a hedge plant, it has spread aggressively, outcompeting native vegetation and disrupting natural habitats. Buckthorn's dense growth, early spring leaves, and late-season leaf retention create dense shade, hindering the growth of other plants, especially tree seedlings. It also produces berries that are attractive to birds, but the seeds are spread by the birds, contributing to buckthorn's rapid spread. We need your help in removing Buckthorn from our parks. Please note volunteers must be at least 18 to participate.

VGI is looking for someone with photography experience to take photos of our 1.5 acre farm, Farmhouse, and community events! This volunteer can be a student, professional, or just have lots of experience with photography, and is a great opportunity to hone your skills and practice different types of photography. Photos will be used in our outreach and marketing materials, grant writing, and general use with credit going out to you! Extremely flexible, as you can come for a single event, come on your own to photograph the farm, or come more regularly!

Victory Garden Initiative is approaching 20 years as an organization in 2028! As you can imagine, we have boxes and boxes of files from over the years that could use digitizing and categorizing. Take your skills and passion a step further and help us put together a written history of VGI to reflect on and celebrate the continuous growth!

Join us at our 1.5 acre urban farm for fun day getting your hands dirty as you help us care for our crops. You'll help with various daily activities such as composting food waste, watering crops, pulling weeds, harvesting produce, planting seeds, digging, mulching and so much more!

A Farm Leader will be present at the time of your shift to provide you with objectives and tasks that are to be completed during your volunteer shift.

We welcome volunteers of all ages, but ask that those under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult.

The Farm is also a great place for volunteer groups!

Drop-in volunteer days are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am - 2pm. We have some flexibility for hours outside of this range as well, so feel free to sign up and chat with us!

Thank you for your interest in helping us to solve hunger! We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities at our Milwaukee food bank. We welcome individuals, families, corporate and social groups. 

Volunteers participate in sorting, packaging, labeling, and cleaning projects. This could range from labeling canned goods to be shipped to food pantries, sorting meat products to provide meal programs with real protein, boxing fresh produce to send to homeless shelters, or packing bulk product into family friendly sized portions. Our staff will give you specific information about your task and assist you through your shift. Please note this volunteer activity takes place in a warehouse facility. For safety concerns, volunteers who are 10-13 years old must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the volunteer activity.

Surfaces, equipment and tools are sanitized after each volunteer shift. We may ask our volunteers to assist us with the process.

Volunteer Requirements & Information

Due to the nature of working with mostly donated foods, volunteer projects are not always guaranteed to come in on time or at all. Volunteer shifts may need to be shortened or rescheduled if projects are completed or unavailable. We will make every effort to provide a two-week notice if volunteer shifts will need to be rescheduled.

We provide dinner to about 25 youth and young adults every Wednesday and Friday. Volunteers prepare the meal and are invited to sit down to enjoy it with our youth. Our clients appreciate having the opportunity to engage with outside community members over a meal.

Pathfinder's Youth Shelter provides emergency housing and supportive services to homeless and runaway youth. Assistant Advocates assist with the physical and counseling needs of the youth and help staff maintain the high level of care it provides. They provide the day-to-day supervision of the residents and the guidance, support, and encouragement needed to return to a safe place.

Pathfinders provides assistance to help find, secure, and sustain safe housing for our young people experiencing homelessness or are experiencing housing instability. We do our work with a housing first approach, believing that housing is an essential tool for success and not a reward for program compliance.

Although moving in to an apartment is an exciting step for our young people, without everyday cleaning supplies, the barrier of living in a healthy environment will still be a barrier. We are asking community members to donate the following cleaning supplies so that our youth can have safe, clean, and healthy homes.

Our vigil volunteer program is more of an "on-call" opportunity; vigil support is based upon request of patient's family or care-giving team. Scheduling of vigil takes into consideration the volunteer's location and availability.

Applicants must attend an orientation to learn about the philosophy of hospice, the role of a vigil volunteer, and skills related to caring for and communicating with hospice patients and their families. Emphasis is on providing comfort during the dying process. Requirements for vigil volunteers: 18 years of age or older, complete a TB test, must agree to background and reference check, must be appropriately coping with any personal losses, impeccable communication skills, sound judgment regarding issues of death and dying, and ability to work independently with indirect supervision. Characteristics that Heartland is looking for in a vigil volunteer include: a positive outlook on life, flexibility, empathy, sensitivity to issues around death and dying, compassion, a willingness to help others and ability to work as a member of the hospice team. Reliable transportation is a must!

Heartland Hospice needs more talented craft volunteers to donate items that will bring comfort to patients facing life-limiting illnesses. The sky's the limit when it comes to what will bring a smile to a patient's face, but some suggestions include: new bed sheets (full size extra long or with deep pockets), memory/comfort bears made from loved one's clothing, crocheted lap blankets/shawls/slippers, fleece blankets, seasonal items, veterans appreciation items, stuffed animals (teddy bears) or pillows, fidget/twiddle blankets or hand-muffs for dementia patients, and any other craft item that will brighten a patient's room. Items can be dropped off at Heartland's business office in Milwaukee.
