Opportunities From: Volunteers United

Volunteer: Farmhand - Victory Garden Urban Farm

Join us at our 1.5 acre urban farm for fun day getting your hands dirty as you help us care for our crops. You'll help with various daily activities such as composting food waste, watering crops, pulling weeds, harvesting produce, planting seeds, digging, mulching and so much more!

A Farm Leader will be present at the time of your shift to provide you with objectives and tasks that are to be completed during your volunteer shift.

We welcome volunteers of all ages, but ask that those under the age of 14 be accompanied by an adult.

The Farm is also a great place for volunteer groups!

Drop-in volunteer days are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am - 4:30pm. We have some flexibility for hours outside of this range as well, so feel free to sign up and chat with us!

Volunteer: Skilled Laborer - Carpenter, Plumber, Electrician etc!

Put your construction skills to good use! You can help around our new Farmhouse on projects such as building/installing shelving units and assisting with renovation of our event and community kitchen space, or you can join us in constructing raised garden beds and signs for our annual garden blitz event, or even installing rain water catchment systems at the farm!

Victory Garden Initiative builds communities that grow their own food to create a community-based, socially just, environmentally sustainable, and nutritious food system for all! If you are a skilled carpenter, electrician, plumber, mason, or any number of other fields we could really use your help in literally building our Urban Farm Campus!

In 2018 we purchased a building across the street from our 1.5 acre farm and began renovations to turn it into our Farmhouse that would house our offices, an event and education space, a community kitchen, and root cellar. This space will be a community gathering space for the community for people to come together and learn how to grow good food, cook good food, and solve issues facing their neighborhood. We're proud to say that we are over halfway to that dream! We've moved into the office space and completed the education and event space. But we still have a long way to go...we're in the process of getting this old building completely up to code, installing the community kitchen, and getting the office space fully functional for our staff and volunteers. A skilled laborer would really be helpful in all the small tasks (hmm, we could really use shelving units for our historical files!) as well as the opportunity to get involved in the bigger visioning and construction of the kitchen!

Check out some awesome before and after images below! Much of this was done with the help of skilled volunteers -- from a muralist who donated her talents, to a carpenter who helped make the floor structurally sound, to everyday volunteers who helped paint some base coats! What will YOU do?!
