Join Independence First to support seniors in our community through the Food Distribution Program with Hunger Task Force! Volunteers will load food items or boxes of food into seniors' cars in an outdoor drive-through on Friday, October 17 from 10-11am. This event is a quick and easy way to help provide fresh, healthy, and shelf-stable food to seniors in the Milwaukee Area. If you sign up as a group, you may stay after the event for an optional, private tour of Independence First to learn about universal design and our programs and services.

Independence First is a nonprofit and Independent Living Center dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to live independently in the community. We are a scent-free facility for the safety and comfort of those with chemical sensitivities. We ask that guests refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, and other scented products at agency-sponsored events.

Join us for some fun in the park while volunteering at our annual beer gardens!

Volunteers acting as mentors and role models for  the children of the shelter. Depending on the number of children, the ages of the children and how many volunteers will determine what activities will take place each evening.   The Children's program takes place immediately following dinner. Dinner is served at 6 pm.. so somewhere around 6:45pm.  The activity could be as simple as playing games with the children, arts and crafts or helping with homework. 

Volunteers are needed to help with greeting and help with the pre-movie activities.

Overview: Volunteers would help maintain flower beds by weeding, pruning, deadheading, and spreading mulch a few times per year at Camp Alice Chester in East Troy throughout the spring, summer and fall. Shifts are flexible.   

Qualifications: This position is for volunteers interested in performing general gardening activities outdoors and have some experience identifying and caring for perennials, communicating with staff and who don't mind repetitive tasks like weeding or pruning. Volunteers should be able to work in hot weather, stoop, bend and kneel and be comfortable working outdoors.

Volunteers would need become a Girl Scout member and complete a background check through GSWISE.

This summer is the 10th Anniversary season of our Tribute Tuesday concerts. We want to express our gratitude to all the bands who have contributed to the success of Tribute Tuesday over the past decade! This year we've brought back the bands that drew the largest crowds and left us wanting more.

Volunteers are needed to help lead other volunteers, greet concert attendees and more!

Picking up litter and other detritus to beautify our location and block(s). Depending on weather, and how quickly this project is completed, the group may also help organize our storage area located inside of our building.

HEAR Wisconsin is looking for up to 15 volunteers to work with staff to clean and spruce up our property. Tasks including weeding, litter pickup, raking, hedge trimming, and sweeping the parking lot in preparation for our annual Fall Fest on October 5th.

We do not have our own yard equipment, so would greatly appreciate if some volunteers bring electric tree/bush trimmers, rakes, and extension cords with them, and that all bring their own garden gloves if possible (extra gloves will be available, and staff will provide personal tools for others to use). Volunteers will be outside for the entirety of this project, so please dress accordingly.

We are excited to have 10 raised garden beds that definitely have lots of growing going on, however, we need some help in caring for the garden and controlling the weeds. We are currently seeking volunteers interest in weekly watering, weeding and tending to the plants. As our garden program grows, there may be additional opportunities to garden with our students. If interested in guiding lessons, sharing talents, possible experience teaching children in the gardens, please reach out. We are looking for a volunteer who loves working with plants and would be interested in helping in our gardens at least 1-2 hours a week during the months of April - October. St. Joseph Academy has a very large landscaping footprint. Our plants left unchecked grow out of control with weeds.

We need help on a monthly basis weeding, trimming, raking and collecting garbage around the facility to beautify the space for our children and community.

This is a monthly opportunity - April, May, June, July, August, September and October.

Materials Provided:  Garbage bags, rakes, shovels, etc.

Materials to Bring:  Gloves, wear old clothes, etc.

We are seeking volunteers for projects at La Casa de Esperanza Village apartments, which serve low-income seniors and individuals with mobility impairments.

On June 19th, we had wonderful volunteers, but they were unable to complete the roofing of the pergola due to time constraints. We now require assistance with installing the roof sheeting and shingles. Additionally, we need help replacing the shingles on the dumpster area to match the pergola and removing an old piano from the community room.

The Community Outreach Ambassador will need to be available for events that take place in Washington County. The Volunteer will need to be versed in FRIENDS services, be able to assist someone if they are interested in services or volunteering, and be comfortable providing support if someone discloses an assault or abuse.

Duties: Tabling at outreach events, engaging with audience, displaying FRIENDS resources appropriately at events, being comfortable discussing domestic and sexual violence.

 Qualifications: Communication skills, some awareness of domestic and sexual violence, passionate, practices cultural humility, flexible and reliable.

Gainful Experience: Resume building skills, diverse knowledge of the impact domestic and sexual violence has the community and individuals, potential networking contacts, volunteering for a great and needed cause.

Training: 1-hour introduction orientation, 2 hours of services overview, trauma-informed training, and minimum of 1 shadowing session.

Looking for the perfect team outing? Each spring, Camp Whitcomb/Mason needs volunteers to help prep Camp’s 306 acres for the thousands of members that will enjoy time there in summer. Activities include deep cleaning, light construction (picnic tables, benches, etc.), painting, groundskeeping, invasive species management, lasagna-making (100 in a day!), wood splitting, clearing trails, and more! Additionally, we also need volunteers to help after the Camp ends for the season. Activities are weather dependent. Dates and times are flexible. Year-round, except June - August

Artists Working in Education (AWE) is seeking a few people to assist us with our fall clean-up. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. In order to prepare for winter, we will need help with window washing, pulling up weeds, and prepping our flower bed. Gloves and other cleaning supplies will be provided. Overview

The Community Garden Coordinator will help grow and maintain plants, as well as inform others about the plants and answer casual inquiries. The coordinator will work outside (3-6 hours/week) from April through October. With staff supervision, volunteers prepare planting beds, plant, weed, prune and deadhead, water and harvest. This volunteer must be at least 18 years old and complete a WI Caregiver’s background check.

Qualifications

This position is for volunteers interested in performing general gardening practices outdoors who are enthusiastic about plants, communicate well with staff and the public, and don’t mind repetitive tasks like weeding (sometimes for extended periods of time).

Volunteers are needed to plant seeds, plants, water and maintain growth of vegetable plants for Green Power garden plots.  The garden is supported by U.W. Extension and you will be guided by a master gardener during your shift. 

We welcome a large variety of shifts every day of the week, and look forward to matching your schedule and ours.  We suggest approximately a two hour shift but we are flexible.   Individuals, corporate groups, community groups and families are welcome and needed to support our community!

We start our efforts in Spring and garden throughout the summer and early Fall.  Later in the season harvesting, weighing and possible delivery needed also.  Thousands of pounds of fresh produce is provide to local pantries and those in need.  

Plots are sectioned off to assist with social distancing and gardening tools are available.  If you have your favorite shovel, rake or weed trimmer, bring it along.  The garden is near 164 and Hwy 59.  We will provide complete directions upon confirming your shift.  

We do encourage you to bring sun screen, bug spray, water and work gloves.

We are in need of a group of no more than 6 to clean debris around the perimeter of the Center and on the adjacent playground. Flower bed maintenance and weeding around bushes is needed, as well. 

COVID-19 has affected all of us and the community served by Silver Spring Neighborhood Center is no exception. Our programming has been modified and we have implemented policies aimed at keeping our participants, staff, and volunteers safe.  

We welcome volunteers who:

Volunteers are required to wear a face mask at all times while on Silver Spring Neighborhood Center property. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own face masks, but, if needed, one will be provided. Gloves and hand sanitizer are also available. We require all volunteers to maintain CDC guidelines for social distancing at all times.

The Volunteer Services intern will work to promote the Volunteer Services department to help create and strengthen bonds within the Milwaukee community. The intern will work with the rest of the department to engage potential volunteer groups while offering support to the volunteer group connections we currently have. Duties will include completing tasks such as volunteer data-entry and other clerical work. Skills that can be gained include extensive data-entry proficiency and interactive professional experience. 

Need help with weeding, harvesting and building an expanded additional garden area.  The need is overwhelming for our local food pantries and churches.  Very flexible schedule.

Our dentists have drills but not the right skills, our doctors and nurses will fix any bruises or bumps, behavioral health will keep you calm under pressure…but what we really need is a handy carpenter to build a new ramp for all the four seasons!

Help needed to repair or build a new wooden ramp.  Our patients are the under or uninsured, our goal is to make them feel welcome from the moment they arrive.  The ramp that is currently in use needs some structural help, if not replacing.  We have patients that use walkers, canes, and wheelchairs.  Your help would provide much needed safety and access to the medical care we provide. 

We will provide all needed materials…skill and tools required. 

Are you an HGTV junkie, do you love watching home makeovers and yard crashers?  Here is your chance to grab your co-workers and spend a day in the sun.  How about putting some of that know-how to use, making visual improvements to make our patients feel welcome.

We are located in Milwaukee and could use a landscaping makeover.  If you love to “design on a dime” and uncover beauty (pick-up unsightly trash) this is the project for you!

We can provide some tools and supplies.  You supply the willingness and man power.
