The Junior National Badminton Championship is scheduled for June 27th – July 3rd in the Wisconsin Convention Center. They are looking for volunteers to help with multiple tasks. Admission Coordinator
The Admission Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring entry requirements are met before entering the facility.
Announcer
The announcer will be working at the tournament desk to make announcements. Many junior badminton players have names, primarily last names, of Asian descent. Must be able to speak clearly and have the ability to pronounce names correctly.
Court Break Down
Once the tournament has concluded, those responsible for Court Tear Down will need to break down the courts including, but not limited to rolling up the floor mats, disassembling the sports floor and removing the court tape.
Court Manager
The Court Manager is responsible for checking each court for missing line judges. Relay issues/injuries/umpire requests (shuttle/towel/mop needs, referee wants) to the tournament desk/referee thru a 2-way radio. Delivers shuttles/towels/mops to courts on demand. Must be able to work quickly and efficiently to maintain a tight schedule.
Court Set Up
Those responsible for Court Set Up will be responsible for working with a team to lay out the sports floor. This will be needed before the badminton floor mats, nets, and poles can be laid out. Six courts will also need to be taped with the correct court dimensions.
Court Sweeper
The Court Sweeper is responsible for sweeping the court every two hours to ensure court is not slippery e.g. all feathers should be removed.
Line Judge Staging Coordinator
The Line Judge Staging Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all line judges remain in the staging area, assign line judges to matches, and make announcements. Must be able to speak clearly.
Physician/ Qualified Medical Staff
Qualified Medical Staff is responsible for administering first aid and must be able and qualified to assess the medical needs of the athletes and act accordingly.
Player Registration
Player Registrars are responsible for checking in players before and during the tournament and handing out tournament T-shirts. They may also be responsible for providing refunds to players if necessary.
Player Staging Coordinator
After announcer calls the player to staging area, the Player Staging Coordinator is responsible to ensure players have checked in and remain in the player staging area.
Scorekeeper
Scorekeepers are trained technical officials who will help the players to keep score of the match. Their sole purpose is to help to keep score. If there is disagreement on the court, they will get referee to resolve the issue. USAB can provide a 3-4 hour training prior to tournament.
Update Draw Information
The person responsible for updating draw information will be responsible for writing the score on the posted draw sheets. Must be able to understand draw sheets, correctly identify the winner and loser, in order to put names clearly for next round.
Warm-up Court Coordinator
The Warm-Up Court Coordinator will help to facilitate the usage of warm up courts. This person will direct players to proper courts and ensure fairness in usage of courts.
