The Accompaniment Volunteer is responsible for providing support to sexual assault (SA) and/or domestic violence (DV) patients that need care at Aurora Healing Center at Sinai. Volunteers will work alongside a forensic nurse while providing support to the patient during any forensic nursing services and will provide accompaniment support during any law enforcement interviews that may take place. Although Aurora Healing & Advocacy staff provides support to survivors of sexual and domestic violence at other locations throughout the Milwaukee area, volunteers will work only out of Aurora Healing Center at Sinai Medical Center and Aurora Healing Center at West Allis Medical Center.
Extensive Training is required for this role. All interested volunteers must be able to attend the following Fall 2021 Virtual Training Dates:
- Tuesday, October 5th from 5:30pm-8:00pm (virtual)
- Thursday, October 7th from 7:30pm-8:30pm (virtual)
- Saturday, October 9th from 9:00am-3:30pm (face to face but with mask requirement)
On top of attending all training dates above, volunteers will also be asked to participate in some supplemental training they complete on their own time:
- Aurora Orientation Materials
- Pre-Recorded Recap on Flow of Care at Hospital and Law Enforcement Reporting
- Information on Community Resources, links to websites, etc.
- WI Victim Accompaniment Law
Volunteers are asked to commit to 12 hours of on-call shifts a month for a minimum of a 6 month commitment.
Advocate Aurora Health is taking extra steps to ensure safe care onsite with COVID-19 Screening upon entry, required masking, social distancing and enhanced cleaning.
