MCC’s Older Adults Center provides older adults 60+ a safe, welcoming place to stay connected, eat healthy, and be well. In addition to offering a healthy meal, the Older Adult Center hosts classes and events that enrich elders’ lives and strengthen connections. The center is operated in partnership with the Milwaukee County Department on Aging.

Please note that this is the first step of the volunteer application process. Before your first volunteer shift, you must complete the MCC application and have this processed with the MCC Volunteer Coordinator, Arlene Gonzalez. Generally, this process will take 1-2 business days upon your application.

Bagged lunches provided by volunteers offer convenient and healthy lunches to residents staying in our emergency shelter who may need a meal on the go. Once scheduled with a coordinator, you will receive the full lunch kit guidelines.

Once your interest is submitted, you will receive an email from Sojourner's Volunteer Coordinator to schedule a date.

Peace Meals are served by volunteers to our shelter residents. The Peace Dinners offer comfort, company, and healthy meals to residents staying in our emergency shelter. Small groups (6 maximum) plan and prepare a meal off-site, in a sterile environment, for 60 guests. The meal may be ordered from a restaurant as an option.  Meals are warmed up and served in our shelter kitchen. If the volunteer(s) are not able to stay to serve the meal, the meal can also be dropped off.

·       Prepare food off-site or order food for about 60 residents

·       Warm and serve food

·       Clean up

·       Plan to be here about 2-3 hours

·       Limit of 6 volunteers due to the size of the kitchen

·       Dinner arrival 4:30 PM

We ask that meals include:

·       Main entrée – due to allergy concerns, we ask that meals do not contain seafood. If your meal contains pork, please provide an alternative option in addition to the pork dish.

·       Vegetarian entrée

·       One or more side dishes

·       Fresh green salad

·       Fresh fruit

·       Bread/Rolls

·       Pre-portioned dessert (ice cream bars, cupcakes, cookies, pre-cut dessert bars, etc)

·       Beverages are optional. If your group chooses to bring one, please bring something other than soda (juice, decaf iced tea, fruit-infused water, etc)

Once your interest is submitted, you will receive an email from Sojourner's Volunteer Coordinator to schedule a date.

Multiple tasks need an extra set of hands from a volunteer group. The tasks are chosen based on the agency’s needs for that day.

Help vision screen students in your community! Join us at a Milwaukee school.  We need a few volunteers to help us identify children with potential vision problems and set them on the road to healthy vision through a children's vision screening.

All volunteers are required to complete and pass a background check. Volunteers will receive information on vision screening after registering. A PBW staff member will be on site to facilitate the vision screening. No previous experience with health care or vision screenings is necessary. This is an opportunity for individual adults, teens and small groups (maximum size of 3).

Time commitment: The vision screening is scheduled for March 3, 2024, at 8:00am. The vision screening will last approximately 3 hours. Volunteers will receive the vision screening location address after registering. About Prevent Blindness Wisconsin

Founded in 1958 by a group of dedicated volunteers, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin's mission is to prevent blindness and preserve sight in Wisconsin communities. We envision a Wisconsin where everyone enjoys a lifetime of healthy vision and we work toward this goal by providing free, direct sight-saving services, such as vision screenings, throughout the state.

Volunteers in this role support La Casa de Esperanza’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program by serving as the first point of contact for clients during their tax appointments. Program Support Assistant / Intake Screener volunteers play a vital role in ensuring accurate, efficient, and welcoming tax preparation services. Key Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist clients at the beginning of their tax appointments (in-person or virtually)

• Make copies of tax documents and identification cards

• Guide clients through the completion of required intake and consent forms, ensuring all questions are fully answered

• Review intake forms for completeness and accuracy

• Organize and deliver client files to IRS-certified tax preparers for review

• Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information Training & Certification

• Intake Screener volunteers are required to obtain IRS certification

• La Casa de Esperanza provides training sessions and support to assist volunteers in completing the certification process

We are a community-based nonprofit agency dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Our programs include homebuyer counseling, free tax preparation services, employment support, financial counseling, a loan program for credit-challenged clients, and a Lead-Safe Homes initiative.

Position Summary, the Program Support Assistant (Volunteer) provides essential administrative and program support across multiple community service programs. This role helps ensure smooth daily operations and positive client experiences while supporting staff who deliver critical services to the community.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with general office and administrative tasks (filing, copying, data entry)

Support client intake and appointment scheduling

Help prepare and organize program materials and client packets

Answer phones and greet clients in a professional and welcoming manner

Assist staff with special projects, outreach, and events as needed

We provide dinner to about 25 youth and young adults every Wednesday and Friday. Volunteers prepare the meal and are invited to sit down to enjoy it with our youth. Our clients appreciate having the opportunity to engage with outside community members over a meal.

Pathfinders provides assistance to help find, secure, and sustain safe housing for our young people experiencing homelessness or are experiencing housing instability. We do our work with a housing first approach, believing that housing is an essential tool for success and not a reward for program compliance.

Although moving in to an apartment is an exciting step for our young people, without everyday cleaning supplies, the barrier of living in a healthy environment will still be a barrier. We are asking community members to donate the following cleaning supplies so that our youth can have safe, clean, and healthy homes.

Pathfinders is seeking support from community members to assemble Welcome Home Kits for youth transitioning from homelessness and housing instability into their first apartment. Moving in is an exciting step for our young people. However, without everyday items, simple tasks such as taking a shower or cooking a meal, remain a luxury. These kits equip our youth with the basic essentials we all need to function comfortably and safely in our homes.

Pathfinder's Youth Shelter provides emergency housing and supportive services to homeless and runaway youth. Assistant Advocates assist with the physical and counseling needs of the youth and help staff maintain the high level of care it provides. They provide the day-to-day supervision of the residents and the guidance, support, and encouragement needed to return to a safe place.

The clothing bank located at the Women's Shelter on the near south side of Milwaukee is always in need of organization.  It is a great opportunity for small groups of individuals.  The clothes need to be sorted by size, season and gender.  Perfect opportunity for one person or a group up to 10.   This opportunity can be done almost anytime. Very flexible schedule.  WIth the seasons changing we need to organize switching out the clothing to match the season.  Very flexible opportunity.

Volunteers acting as mentors and role models for  the children of the shelter. Depending on the number of children, the ages of the children and how many volunteers will determine what activities will take place each evening.   The Children's program takes place immediately following dinner. Dinner is served at 6 pm.. so somewhere around 6:45pm.  The activity could be as simple as playing games with the children, arts and crafts or helping with homework.  Activities depend on the ages of the children.

We’re looking for a creative, encouraging Art Instructor to guide our students through a meaningful art project that helps them express how they imagine their ideal world and community. This activity gives our young people the chance to dream, reflect, and communicate their hopes through colors, shapes, and storytelling. As the Art Instructor, you’ll help inspire students to think big

Support may involve prayer (reading from the Bible or other material that is comforting for patient), providing respite to family (allowing them to step away and grab a bite to eat/take a break) or simply being present...providing comfort and peace of mind to all that the patient is not alone. Vigil volunteers, in collaboration with the hospice team, can help provide the patient with the most valuable gift - a loving presence. 

Our vigil volunteer program is more of an "on-call" opportunity; vigil support is based upon request of patient's family or care-giving team. Scheduling of vigil takes into consideration the volunteer's location and availability.

Applicants must attend an orientation to learn about the philosophy of hospice, the role of a vigil volunteer, and skills related to caring for and communicating with hospice patients and their families. Emphasis is on providing comfort during the dying process. Requirements for vigil volunteers: 18 years of age or older, complete a TB test, must agree to background and reference check, must be appropriately coping with any personal losses, impeccable communication skills, sound judgment regarding issues of death and dying, and ability to work independently with indirect supervision. Characteristics that Heartland is looking for in a vigil volunteer include: a positive outlook on life, flexibility, empathy, sensitivity to issues around death and dying, compassion, a willingness to help others and ability to work as a member of the hospice team. Reliable transportation is a must!

Spring City Corner Clubhouse is a place that empowers individuals who are disabled by mental illness to achieve or retain the confidence and skills necessary to lead vocationally productive and socially satisfying lives.

We are in need of people to help us deep clean and wax flooring with your own machine.

This will require some heavy work. We could be flexible with time. This would take approximately 4 hours for 1-2 people. 

Because of rising costs, our members with mental health issues need help replenishing their cupboards with food.

We're looking for a volunteer to help remove a large amount of brush and yard waste from our property and haul it off to the dump. Volunteer must have their own truck and/or trailer. They must be able to load and transport everything by themselves. This is a great opportunity for someone who already has city dump access and wanted to help with a much needed clean up! City of Waukesha resident preferred for easy proximity to Waukesha Drop-off Center, but waste can be dropped off at anyone's local dump that they are able to access. Every center does have a mandatory fee that will also need to be paid by the volunteer at drop off. City of Waukesha's Drop-off Center is $3.00 per vehicle load & $4.00 per trailer load. They take cash or check only. This will be about 1-2 loads. 

Requirements: 

Truck and/or Trailer

Ability to lift/load yard debris independently

Ability to Pay Drop-off fee 

Preferred:

The Mukwonago Meals on Wheels operation is in the Birchrock Senior Apartments located on Birchrock Way. They operate Monday – Thursdays, no major holidays. Drivers pick up the meals for delivery at 11:00 a.m. and are usually back by 1:30 p.m. Most drivers help once a week. Mileage reimbursement is available.

This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Waukesha County seniors!

Description: ABLE is seeking to add diversity to the voices of our volunteer readers--for example, we would like to have younger-sounding voices to read children's books. Share your vocal talent with those who are blind, visually impaired or print disabled! We're looking for dedicated volunteers to record a variety of texts (for example, instruction manuals, magazines, and fiction or non-fiction books) at our professional recording studio. Qualified individuals will possess excellent oratory skills, strong reading comprehension abilities, and the commitment it takes to complete projects in a timely manner.

This is a pool position, meaning volunteering is on a project by project basis. Narrators will be given assignments according to how well their voice is suited to a particular project.

Requirements:

Time Commitment: 2 to 4 hours/week (this includes preparation time)

The Food Pantry Shopping Assistant plays an essential role in creating a positive and supportive shopping experience for our pantry clients. Become a Certified Children's Vision Screener! Help us identify children with potential vision problems and set them on the road to healthy vision through children's vision screenings in your community.

Founded in 1958 by a group of dedicated volunteers, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin's mission is to prevent blindness and preserve sight in Wisconsin communities. We envision a Wisconsin where everyone enjoys a lifetime of healthy vision and we work toward this goal by providing free, direct sight-saving services, such as vision screenings, throughout the state. 

Volunteers help with vision screenings at schools and childcare centers throughout greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County that otherwise do not have the capacity to screen the children at their schools and centers. All volunteers are required to attend a Prevent Blindness Wisconsin sponsored Children's Vision Screener Training. The training will go over how to vision screen school-age and preschool age children and the last step is to attend a short virtual volunteer orientation. The children’s vision screening certification is good for 3 years. No previous experience with health care or vision screenings is necessary. This is an opportunity for individual adults, teens and small groups (maximum size of 5).   

Volunteers are required to complete and pass a background check and Children’s Vision Screener Training before volunteering. To sign up for our online training, please email Breanna at breanna@pbwi.org for the sign-up link.

Time commitment: Vision screenings typically take place on weekday mornings. Depending on classroom size, screenings take between 1 and 3 hours. Vision screenings start in September and go through May.

Red Cross Media Relations volunteers serve as spokespeople, storytellers and facilitators for T.V., radio, online, print & social media.

Qualifications:

Serve on-call for week day, weekend and evening shifts.

One shift per month (~4-to-8 hours) required. On-call needs vary based on scale of emergency/disaster, and your location.

(Average emergency/disaster call = 1-2 hours of work).

This position supports the Regional Communications department. This opportunity requires participation in in-person activities and/or performing work in a Red Cross facility. Assist the Red Cross in delivering its mission by taking and sharing photos and/or video to showcase the Red Cross at work, both in disaster and non-disaster times.

During Disasters:

The purpose of this position is to expand Restoring Family Links (RFL) delivery service to clients who have been separated from family members in other countries due to armed conflict, migration, disasters, or other humanitarian emergencies. Volunteers are responsible for supporting and developing the outreach strategy, expanding community awareness and resources, developing new contacts and volunteers and effectively serving all clients and partners. Volunteers will demonstrate commitment and understanding of the Fundamental Principals of the Red Cross international network.

As a volunteer donor ambassador, you’ll ensure every blood donor has a wonderful experience from start to finish. Greet donors with a warm smile, assist them with checking in, and express heartfelt thanks for their generous donation. You’ll be a key part of our Biomedical Services team, making a real difference every day. Each shift you take helps save lives. While this position requires that volunteers speak English, in some locations the role may place a special emphasis on engaging with donors whose preferred language is Spanish

During a shift, Donor Ambassadors will:

 Donor Ambassadors are needed to support both mobile blood drives (which are hosted at community or sponsor sites) and fixed sites (Red Cross blood donation centers).

Screening Team members seek to understand what brought prospective volunteers to the Red Cross, their areas of interest and what position they would find most meaningful. Screeners use their understanding of the volunteer and match it with the needs of the organization, connecting volunteers with positions for which they are both interested and well suited.

The Volunteer Medical Screener provides support to blood collection operation by performing regulated medical screening of potential blood donors.

Qualifications:

Exposure levels are based on the essential functions as stated in this position description; however, in some instances, variances may occur due to the applicable nature of this position within a particular work site. Therefore, the work site may determine the exposure level to be greater than or less than the below stated level. 

This position is an exposure determination: 1 in view of the fact that the position requires the incumbent work under conditions where the potential exists for the incumbent to make contact with blood or blood components as a result of splashes, spills, and/or needlesticks. 

Training: Combination of both virtual and in person instruction typically 8a-5p or shifted one hour earlier or later depending on the time zone the class is being held in.

On the job training days dependent on the drive during that day - typically a 4-6hr shift. Drive(s) locations are depending on available drives, start and end times ranging from 7 AM – 6 PM.  Some travel may be required.

Training will be 40 hours per week for 4 consecutive weeks through a combination of both virtual and in-person training.  Please ensure your schedule can accommodate 4 consecutive weeks of training.

Once training is completed, time requirement is two shifts per month (approx. 4-6 hours per shift).

The Shelter Service Associate works in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Shelter Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Shelter Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

Responsibilities vary depending on assignment.

Local/Regional: Shift work determined by the scale of the relief operation; a minimum requirement of 8-12 hours per day during the disaster relief operation for multiple, consecutive days.

Beyond region: Minimum of 14 days working 8- or 12-hour shifts

Contribute to the quality of life provided by the VA Health Care System through volunteer jobs provided at the local VA Health Care Facility.
