Volunteer: Assemble "Treat Bags" for our Shelter Guests!PURPOSE: Guests are appreciative when we offer Treat Bags at lunch, dinner, or as a snack throughout the day. They appreciate the delicious foods, the fun presentation, and the knowledge that someone in our community is thinking of them. Additionally, Treat Bags can be part of the many ways that guests’ basic and emotional needs are met, allowing them to better focus on their progress and goals. DESCRIPTION: Your group will plan, purchase ingredients and assemble single-serving Treat Bags. These consist of disposable cellophane, plastic, or paper baggies filled with purchased or homemade snacks/sweets. This is a great at-home volunteer option for younger groups and families. You can also prepare them on-site and receive a tour. We ask for Treat Bags in increments of 30 (30, 60, 90, etc.). NOTES: Homemade snacks, such as trail mix, puppy chow, and cookies, are welcome. For these items that lack labels/packaging, please date each baggie with a sharpie, referring to the day the food was made (this can be small, in the corner). Additionally, please. make sure any nuts or common allergens are more obviously labeled- we recommend using a white label sticker, with a printed or handwritten message. - A handwritten card or note in each Treat Bag is not required but much appreciated. Similarly, paper baggies can be decorated. Please keep notes respectful and free of religious notions or personal contact information. A Guest House staff member will read through all cards- therefore, please either make them visible through the bag, or choose a resealable bag that we can access. - We love offering guests fruit, but it can get mushy quickly in a baggie. Please include any fruit donations separately, and we will hand out with the Treat Bags. - Single-serving drinks are not required but appreciated. Feel free to include in Treat Bag, or donate separately and we can hand out with the Treat Bags. - This volunteer activity is specific to food and drink items. Please do not include hygiene items, gift cards, or money in Treat Bags RESPOND to this opportunity to be of service or sign-up to receive additional information. Volunteer: 2,500 Items Needed! 2025 St. Joseph Academy Angel Shop DriveDo you sometimes receive little odds and ends that you don't want, can't use and usually throw into a closet to collect dust? Did you purchase something on clearance, but now it's sitting in a closet collecting dust? Are you or do you know a business who would be willing to donate their final clearance items to us? Or do you just have some new or gently used items you're clearing out of the house? Please consider donating those new or gently used items to us. In December 2025 we will hold our 5th Annual Angel Shop where Early Childhood & K4-8th students can shop for family members at $1-$5 a gift for that special someone in their lives. This allows them to be part of the process and spirit of giving. Students learn financial literacy skills, learn to independently shop, and they gain a true sense of pride and accomplishment from participating. We will be collecting items year round for children, teens, adult, and older adults (even Pets!). So please start putting those bags together with that candle you didn't want or hand soap you can't use or the extra screwdriver set you have lying around, that too small wallet, ties, men's cologne, women's perfume, the adult coloring book that was supposed to be calming, but just isn't, soccer and sports items, baseball hats, etc. Additionally, we are also accepting donations of wrapping paper, gift bags, tissue paper, scotch tape, gift tags and bows and ribbons. Donations are being accepted until Friday, December 5. Help us to make this an amazing experience for our kids. Please contact Kim Schubring, Director of Resource Development for drop-off instructions or for more information at (414) 645-5337 ext. 247 or email kschubring@sjamilwaukee.org. Volunteer: Host a Diaper and Diapering Supplies Drive for Mom’s in Need! Many pregnant women and new moms in Milwaukee County are in crisis. The WCS Maternal Health Improvement Team serves pregnant women, new moms and their families. Our team works one-on-one with women to support them as they work to achieve their recovery and related goals. This includes connecting them with the medical, mental health, and substance use treatment services they need, as well as working with them to find safe and affordable housing, healthy and affordable food options, clothing, transportation, and other basic resources they need to be healthy and thrive. We have found that new moms who take part in our programming are in significant need of diapers and wipes for their infants and toddlers. If your team would like to make a difference in the lives of new moms and their children, please consider hosting a Diaper and Diapering Supplies Drive! A baby typically uses 2,500 diapers in a year. Perhaps your team could consider sponsoring one woman with 2,500 diapers or even five women with a gift of 12,500 diapers! Our moms will benefit greatly if they don’t have to worry about having enough diapers to keep a baby clean, dry, and healthy, and can focus on prioritizing their health and the well-being of their families. To host a drive or to learn more about how the WCS Maternal Health Improvement Team helps women improve their health and develop new life skills, please contact development@wiscs.org. Volunteer: Healing RocksA healing rock is used to provide an inspirational message to a client who is on their healing journey but may need a little reminder one day. Take for example, Heidi, she is a 24 year old young professional in her first job out of college. She was sexually assaulted at a party in college and has flashbacks, re-occurring thoughts, and nightmares of the assault. Upon entering into services at The Healing Center Heidi has begun to work on techniques to cope through difficult days and one of those techniques is something called, grounding. Heidi keeps a rock in her desk drawer at work with the word: Courage. She pulls it out when she is having a flashback to the assault and describes the texture, color, feel, weight, and letters on the rock. The rock helps Heidi to remember that she is courageous and bring her back from the flashback. Volunteers can help by creating healing rocks for our clients. Each rock will serve a different healing purpose for each client. We ask that interested volunteers be able to provide the supplies needed to decorate healing rocks, as we cannot always guarantee having any on hand. Volunteer: Youth Impact SpeakerAre you seeking an opportunity to transform your past experiences into a positive influence on the lives of young people? Did you have run-ins with law enforcement and the criminal justice system as a youth? Did you unintentionally or intentionally cause emotional, physical, financial, or mental harm to family or friends as a youth? If so, we have a powerful opportunity for you to share your history, your experience, and the lessons you've learned with a group of teens who are in need of guidance. Youth Empowerment and Accountability is a Waukesha County Program that provides comprehensive support to youth who have been referred by the criminal justice system. Our dedicated social workers work with these youth for over 6-7 weeks, teaching them accountability, victim empathy/ awareness, and empowerment to make better life choices. One way we do this is by having volunteers who experienced a similar start to their lives as youth share their own stories. Volunteer Speakers play a crucial role in shaping the future of these youth by sharing their stories, including any time they spent with the criminal justice system, the consequences of their actions felt by themselves and others, the impact the decisions they made as a youth had on their lives, and the lessons they learned. Volunteers are expected to commit to speaking 2-4 times per year. The group is led by Social Workers on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. The speaking months for 2025 are January, April, July, and October, with some flexibility on the date the volunteer speaks within that month. Volunteers address a group of 3-10 youth for approximately 30 minutes. Volunteer speakers should be prepared to answer questions about their experience, have a passion for working with and supporting positive change in youth, demonstrate maturity and dependability, and be comfortable effectively working with diverse populations. Don't miss this chance to make a difference. Contact us today to learn how you can start sharing your story with the next generation. Agency: Waukesha Co. Have you ever experienced a situation where a youth or family member committed an offense against you or your family? The impact of that offense is likely still fresh on your mind- whether it led to physical, emotional, mental, financial, or more. Examples of this may include a teen who stole from you, a teen who drove drunk and hurt or possibly killed a loved one, or a teen who bullied you. If so, would you consider sharing your trauma and the impact that that teen had on you and may continue to have on you? Your story has the power to transform lives. One of the ways that would help relieve some financial burden for our families is through provision of diapers and baby wipes. Over 60% of our families are facing significant economic stress. Providing diapers and wipes would help to eliminate some of the financial stress for families. We are in need of diapers size 1 - 5 and unscented baby wipes. Volunteer: Teen Court JurorWaukesha County operates a Teen Court- an alternate justice program for youth offenders based on the restorative justice model. In this court, teens who have committed offenses plead guilty, and then present their case to a jury of their peers. Other teens take on the role of prosecutor, defender, clerk of courts, jury foreman, and jury. The jury decides the consequences. We have been operating this program for over 10 years with a lot of success. The teens themselves are less likely to reoffend, they have a great opportunity for education, and they learn about the consequences of their actions. This is a great way for teens to learn about the justice system, promote positive change in their community, and meet like-minded people. Contact us today for more information! Agency: Waukesha Co.
