Volunteer: Mentor Racine teens toward financial capability with SecureFutures

MONEY COACH PROGRAM

The years leading up to high school graduation are critical to the formation of strong money management habits. Personal attention and guidance are the most effective ways to empower teens for a stable and successful financial future. Money Coach, specifically designed for teens from under-resourced communities, is our one-of-a-kind, semester-long financial mentoring program. Small groups of teens are matched with teams of volunteer coaches who guide them through in-depth financial literacy curriculum and provide one-on-one support as they put concepts into practice.

Money Coach is a multi-week program completed over a semester with high school juniors and seniors (Sept-Dec or Feb-May). Group sessions are held every other week, last 60-75-minutes, and focus on specific financial topics with interactive activities and discussion. One-on-one check ins (about 30 minutes each) are held on the weeks between the group sessions and allow for more in-depth focus on each teen's individual budget, expenses, and goals. As a volunteer, you'll mentor teens on their path to financial capability using well-designed curriculum and resources.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

SecureFutures' Money Coach program is a hands-on financial coaching program delivered to a group of high school students by volunteer coaches. The program aims to provide a deeper understanding of financial concepts and hands-on goal-setting through a lesson plan that focuses on direct volunteer-to-student interaction. The primary role of all SecureFutures volunteers is to engage students in financial education lessons by asking questions, leading discussions, and sharing professional and life experience. There are two distinct volunteer roles in the Money Coach program.

The Group Coach volunteer engages and encourages participants and leads the group sessions. The sessions serve to educate participants on financial literacy and to guide them in the development of action plans to achieve financial needs and goals. The group sessions take place every other week for the length of the program (about 6 group sessions). All curriculum and materials are provided. We intend to hold the group sessions in person, but sites will determine their visitor policies as they relate to COVID 19 safety protocols. Groups are generally consist of about 12-18 students.

The One-on-One Coach volunteer engages and encourages participants and conducts one-on-one check-ins. The check-ins enable the coach and students to build meaningful and supportive relationships. These take place every other week while the program runs (about 5 one-on-one check ins) and will be conducted by phone or virtually. One-on-one coaches are expected to attend the group sessions, as well. One-on-one coaches will be assigned 3-4 students to mentor.

Coaches help students to develop action plans to achieve financial needs and goals and guide them if they are faced with obstacles while working toward those goals. Students practice healthy money management skills and are provided the opportunity to earn a scholarship as they meet program benchmarks.

Preferred Talents and Interests:
● Desire to work with teens who come from economically disadvantaged families and communities.
● Desire to build meaningful relationships with teens.
● Experience with public speaking, presenting, or teaching.
● Working knowledge of foundational personal finance concepts. (Training and curriculum will be provided.)
● Basic computer skills.

Training:

All volunteers complete a 3 hour, in-person training. The training covers cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and student engagement techniques, as well as all of the logistics and curriculum for the program.

Volunteer: Mentor Milwaukee teens toward financial capability with SecureFutures

Money Coach is delivered in select high schools and community-based organizations in the Milwaukee area. Teens must be enrolled at one of these partners to be eligible to participate. The list of partners changes each semester, but has included: Riverside, Rufus King, Vincent, Golda Meir, North Division, James Madison, Hamilton, Washington, Reagan, South Division, St. Joan Antida, Messmer, St. Anthony, Bay View, Bradley Tech, Carmen (NW, SE, & S campuses), Teens Grow Greens, and PEARLS for Teen Girls.

Volunteer: Teen Court Juror

Waukesha County operates a Teen Court- an alternate justice program for youth offenders based on the restorative justice model. In this court, teens who have committed offenses plead guilty, and then present their case to a jury of their peers. Other teens take on the role of prosecutor, defender, clerk of courts, jury foreman, and jury. The jury decides the consequences. We have been operating this program for over 10 years with a lot of success. The teens themselves are less likely to reoffend, they have a great opportunity for education, and they learn about the consequences of their actions.

We are seeking teen volunteers to be part of our jury. Teens will listen to testimony and, along with the entire jury, help determine the consequence.

All courts are held Thursdays evenings, typically the second and fourth of every month, or only the second Thursday of the month in June, July and August. Volunteer jurors are asked to commit to 1-2 shifts per month.

This is a great way for teens to learn about the justice system, promote positive change in their community, and meet like-minded people. Contact us today for more information!

Are you looking for a flexible opportunity that works with your busy schedule?

We provide training for all types of individuals you might drive and provide you the resources necessary to drive them safely..

Our staff will give you specific information about your task and assist you through your shift. Please note this volunteer activity takes place in a warehouse facility. For safety concerns, volunteers who are 10-13 years old must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the volunteer activity.

Surfaces, equipment and tools are sanitized after each volunteer shift. We may ask our volunteers to assist us with the process.

Volunteer Requirements & Information

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Must wear closed-toe shoes. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old. Youth, ages 10-13, must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. Groups of school-age youth (schools, clubs, churches, etc.) require one adult chaperone for every 7-10 volunteers. Due to the nature of working with mostly donated foods, volunteer projects are not always guaranteed to come in on time or at all. Volunteer shifts may need to be shortened or rescheduled if projects are completed or unavailable. We will make every effort to provide a two-week notice if volunteer shifts will need to be rescheduled.

Volunteer: YOU Can Build Homes and Hope with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity

Volunteer at Milwaukee Habitat’s largest single fundraiser - ReStore.

We’re looking for leaders: problem-solvers, improvement-makers, folks who have been looking for a place to offer their time and talents. A place where you can make a difference.

Habitat ReStores are non-profit home improvement stores and donation centers whose proceeds are used to build safe, affordable homes in our community. We sell new and gently used furniture, building materials, appliances, and home accessories to the public at 50%-75% below retail. Through the sale of these items, we raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to build safe, affordable homes in our community.

ReStore is driven by volunteer power: every day, our volunteers turn every donated couch, cushion, and cabinet into an opportunity for homes and hope. Habitat’s ReStore offers and impactful volunteer experience at each of our three Milwaukee-area locations: Wauwatosa, Greenfield, and Franklin.

Volunteer roles at the ReStore include:

Donation Center Volunteer: help sort, research, price, and prepare donations for sale. This is a great volunteer role for anyone looking to get their hands dirty while sorting through all the fascinating donations that come through our doors.  Sales Floor Volunteer: if you like organizing, making displays, and helping customers find what their project needs, this role might be for you. It’s our sales floor volunteers who give our customers a personal connection to Habitat for Humanity.  Cashier Volunteer: we’re looking for volunteers who can hold the fort down to serve as cashiers. If you’re a multi-tasker, a person who always offers a smile and won’t back down from a long line of customers, we need you!  Additional volunteer opportunities include: metal scrapping, furniture repair, electronics testing, and more.

Volunteer: Make a Difference--One Couch at a Time--at the Habitat ReStore!

There’s a spot for you on our ReStore team!

Habitat ReStores are non-profit home improvement stores and donation centers whose proceeds are used to build safe, affordable homes in our community.

Every year we salvage and recycle (literal!) tons of new and gently used furniture, building materials, appliances, and home accessories. We refurbish and sell these goods to the public at 50%-75% below retail. Through the sale of these items, we raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to build safe, affordable homes in our community.

ReStore is driven by volunteer power: every day, our volunteers turn every donated couch, cushion, and cabinet into an opportunity for homes and hope. Habitat’s ReStore offers an enjoyable, accommodating, and impactful volunteer experience at each of our three Milwaukee-area locations: Wauwatosa, Greenfield, and Franklin.

To get started volunteering with Milwaukee Habitat, please visit www.mkehabitat.volunteerhub.com to fill out a volunteer application and register for an orientation. Volunteers will be able to begin contributing following their orientation.

Volunteer: Senior Medicare Patrol - Help Educate Medicare Beneficiaries in WI

The SMP program offers volunteers an opportunity to make an important difference in their communities throughout Wisconsin.

Thank you for your interest in the Senior Medicare Patrol volunteer program. As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in the overall success of the Wisconsin SMP. The information that you will impart as a volunteer will help seniors in your community to become better health care consumers. Together we can inform and empower Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers on how to protect, detect, and report Medicare fraud, abuses and errors. By volunteering, you will have an opportunity to use your talents, skills, and networking to provide outreach and education on Medicare fraud in your community. Volunteer involvement ranges from distributing materials, staffing a booth at conferences and outreach events, to giving group presentations. A description of these three activities is below.

Information distributor: As a distributor, you help to transport and distribute SMP information materials to various sites, kiosks, or senior centers throughout your community where information resources are made available to residences. In this role, you do not need to engage in discussions with others about personal information or situations. However, you simply note all questions or comments and give them to the Volunteer Coordinator for follow-up. Exhibitor: As an exhibitor, you help to staff an informational table or booth at community events such as senior resources fairs, wellness expos, health workshops, conferences, civic or faith-based organizations, food pantries, libraries, or non-profit agencies. In this role, you provide information about the program to the attendees and answer basic questions related to how to prevent, detect and report Medicare fraud, abuse and errors. Presenter: As a presenter, you give presentations about the fundamentals of SMP to small and large groups. The role includes the opportunity for you to interact with the audience. If time allows, additional interaction will occur through Q & A and discussion at the end of the presentation. The presentations vary in length from 15 to 60 minutes. Depending on the time allotment and the audience, the presentations may involve a PowerPoint presentation, or an engagement activity called The FUNdamentals of Patrolling Health Care.

All positions require some training and an orientation. Training is provided both in-person and online. We want to provide you with the information and background you’ll need to be knowledgeable and capable of responding to questions from members of the community. The last two roles also require a background check.

Benefits of servings as an SMP Volunteer

The SMP program offers volunteers an opportunity to make an important difference in their communities. Volunteers take pride in working to ensure that the Medicare program will be protected for future generations. Volunteers have access to professional development opportunities, a strong network of aging and disability professionals, and chances to enhance interpersonal skills.

Time Commitment

SMP Volunteers have flexibility in the time devoted to the program. While there is no obligation for a specific monthly time commitment, it is asked that volunteers commit to at least a year due to the amount of training required.

Reporting

Volunteers report directly to the SMP Volunteer Coordinator and submit monthly time sheets and mileage reports.

Qualifications

Commitment to the SMP mission and values Willingness and ability to learn about Medicare and SMP related issues Impartiality when working with people of diverse backgrounds Willingness and means to travel to SMP events and presentations

Responsibilities and Requirements

Present a professional manner when representing SMP Complete all required orientation and trainings Broaden the SMP message through the agreed upon role Possess a valid driver’s license and up-to-date auto insurance Consent to a criminal and personal background check Submit monthly time sheets and mileage reports
