These opportunities are on an as needed basis. Each will outline the estimated time frame.

These are special projects with short time commitments.

These opportunities require onsite commitments (noted below). YWCA SEW is dedicated to providing a safe work environment with increased sanitation and building entry & use guidelines. Each opportunity will require you to work with one or two staff members in a socially distanced work space.

ACAP's lunch times are always very busy. Volunteers are sought to socialize with members during the lunch time. They may also be asked to help a member with their lunch, or assist members in other small ways. Grab a lunch and come spend it with your new friends at ACAP!

ACAP offers innovative, meaningful programming to more than 85 members at 2 different downtown Waukesha sites in 5 different program areas: Advocacy, the Arts, Education & Enrichment, Sports & Recreation, and Volunteerism. We can always use volunteers to help out in our various classes. Thank you for your interest in helping us to solve hunger! We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities at our Milwaukee food bank. We welcome individuals, families, corporate and social groups. 

Volunteers participate in sorting, packaging, labeling, and cleaning projects. This could range from labeling canned goods to be shipped to food pantries, sorting meat products to provide meal programs with real protein, boxing fresh produce to send to homeless shelters, or packing bulk product into family friendly sized portions. Our staff will give you specific information about your task and assist you through your shift. Please note this volunteer activity takes place in a warehouse facility. For safety concerns, volunteers who are 10-13 years old must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the volunteer activity.

Surfaces, equipment and tools are sanitized after each volunteer shift. We may ask our volunteers to assist us with the process.

Volunteer Requirements & Information

Due to the nature of working with mostly donated foods, volunteer projects are not always guaranteed to come in on time or at all. Volunteer shifts may need to be shortened or rescheduled if projects are completed or unavailable. We will make every effort to provide a two-week notice if volunteer shifts will need to be rescheduled.

We are looking for kids oral hygiene supplies to give out at outreach events we attend in the community where we spread our mission and teach children about good oral health habits.

Specifically we are looking for:  

1.  Kids "soft" toothbrushes individually packaged not more than two brushes per package

2.  Kids toothpaste

3.  Floss individually packaged

If your organization is able to host a drive to collect these items for us, we would love engage up to five representatives from your organization to come to our clinic to assemble kid goody bags filled with the items you collected and learn about our mission.  We will supply the bags.

We are looking to make 200 goody bags. 

If your organization would prefer for us to purchase the supplies, a donation of $1,000 would help us to purchase these items.

Engage with museum guests at the All Aboard model railroad exhibit! The five train, 35-foot HO-scale layout features Milwaukee landmarks. The Conductor may be tasked with basic daily upkeep but will mainly engage with guests of all ages during open hours. The main goal of this role is to answer questions about the layout and facilitate understanding of how railroads work and have impacted the development of Milwaukee and innovation in general. Shifts available Wednesday-Sunday 9am-4pm.

Training and background materials provided.

Conductors can be seated for portions of their shift, but some standing, and walking will be required.

Facilitate animal contact at the aquarium’s live-animal touch pools while providing a safe environment for guests. These volunteers encourage guests to explore live animals such as lake sturgeon and slipper lobsters through interactive engagements.

Assist the Guest Services team in running our virtual reality exhibit! Help with line management, getting guests into and out of the VR equipment and instructing them on how to use their program of choice. Learn about and troubleshoot the VR technology as needed.

Training is provided.

Virtual Explorer Facilitaros need to stand, walk, bend and twist during their shift. They will be in close contact with guests to adjust headsets and hand controllers.

Do you like to create art or crafts? Then you are a maker! Help guests create rotating projects in our makerspace, the Kohl’s Design It! Lab. Working closely with staff from the Discovery World education team, KDI Lab Facilitators will restock supplies, assist guests with instructions and creation of their chosen projects.

This position requires some standing, but may be seated for portions of the shift.

Cubelet block robots are a quick and easy way for guests to engage in the basics of robots and coding. These are entry level robots that allow guests to build a robot from pre-programmed cubes. Facilitators assist guests in learning the basic components of a robot (power source, sensory input, and action output) in a fun, hands  on activity.

Training and background materials are provided.

Cubelet Robot Facilitators may stand or sit during their shift. Set up requires lifting and carrying materials.

There are invaders in the Great Lakes! Engage with guests to teach them about the aquatic invasive species in the Great Lakes Future exhibit. Hosts will use a variety of preserved specimens and occasionally a live specimen to educate visitors about the damaging effects common aquatic invasive species have on the Great Lakes ecosystem, as well as control and prevention methods.

Training and background materials provided.

AIS Cart Hosts will need to stand most of their shift and be able to push the cart into position.

The Milwaukee Christian Center (MCC) is a multi-faceted social service and neighborhood development agency that serves families, youth and elderly regardless of ethnicity, gender, economic status, race, religion or sexual orientation. Our programs and initiatives recognize the power of both people and place, with the belief that strong neighborhoods must include strong, safe, beautiful places and abundant opportunities for people to thrive.

We do this work focusing on four key priorities: housing, youth development, older adult programming, food security. 

MCC’s Food Pantry provides food to 1,000+ adults and children each month, and connects families to supports needed to become self sufficient. We need your help to support our community by leading a Food Drive of non-perishable foods and other basic needs items to share with our neighbors. 

Hosting a food drive in support of the MCC Food Pantry is a great option for any individual or group who is interested helping those in need in our neighborhood as your schedule allows. The MCC Food Pantry is in need of unexpired, nonperishable food items year round and we rely on the community to support our neighbors who rely on our Food Pantry.

Horizon Home Care & Hospice is seeking a few volunteers to assist with making phone calls to the bereaved family members and loved ones, of our hospice patients who have passed.

Understandably, this is a very sensitive area, and we would want someone who is compassionate and patient, with a gentle demeanor, who is skilled at relaying these qualities over the phone.  Our ideal volunteer would also have a history in social work, counseling, psychology, or therapy, and would also be computer proficient.

Horizon Home Care & Hospice is looking for a few beautiful souls to volunteer at our Lawlis Family Hospice In-Patient Unit, located on the second floor of Columbia, St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon. There are also opportunities available at Kathy Hospice in West Bend. If you enjoy meeting new people and are interested in providing a helping hand to our compassionate nursing staff, then this may be the perfect role for you!

As a Hospice Companion you will be well prepared to serve the needs of our patients and their families. There is extensive training, much of it centered around therapeutic communication with the dying and the grieving. We are certified by Joint Commission and report to the State Board. As required, you should plan on 10-15 hours of orientation, broken out over several sessions and a few days. We will also provide you with training on direct patient care, so you are able to assist our nurses and aides with some essential functions at our hospice in-patient unit. You truly are, and will feel like, a part of the care team at Horizon's Lawlis Family Hospice.

It should also be noted that our volunteer program is very flexible. Whether you are retired and have lots of extra time on your hands or you're extremely busy yet feel the need to give back to your community, we will make it work for you and your schedule.

They then share knowledge, facilitate guest interactions with the exhibit and help ignite the spark of curiosity in visitors! This role is perfect for someone who has started out in one of our more structured roles such as a Touch Tank Ambassador and would like to branch out. Our Mission

The mission of Walker’s Point Youth & Family Center is to meet the needs of runaway, homeless, and other troubled youth and their families from Milwaukee’s diverse communities by providing services to empower youth, help them resolve personal and family problems, strengthen family relationships, and support safe and stable homes.

Our Organization

Walker’s Point Youth & Family Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which has provided assistance to Milwaukee area youth and families since 1976. Over the past 43 years, we have served over 8,000 young people ages 11-17 with temporary emergency shelter through our Runaway & Teen Crisis Program, and provided an additional 6,400 youth with non-residential counseling and support group services. Since 1992, we have also provided housing to over 530 youth ages 16-21 through our Transitional & Supportive Housing Program.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a donations-based retail store which raises critical funds for Milwaukee Habitat's affordable homeownership mission.

In this role, volunteers will assist in identifying hidden treasures among the donations we receive and researching those donations. This is a great volunteer role for anyone with an interest in antiquing, vintage products, art, tableware, old furniture, classic tools--or anyone who would like to learn more about the identification and research process for cool old items!

This position requests a commitment of four hours per week, some of which can be conducted at home. Volunteers would be based out of one of our three Milwaukee-area ReStores, in Wauwatosa, Greenfield, or Franklin.

Are you a high school student? Join our youth shelter volunteer team as a Peer Counselor!

Are you high school student who is a positive role model for your peers? Would you like to learn valuable skills to list on job or college applications? Fulfill a need and volunteer as a Peer Counselor to youth, ages 11 to 17. You will assist with the recreational and counseling needs of peers in crisis who seek our services. Provide a link between residents and staff, participate in group sessions and promote good relationships. Hours are flexible (weekdays, weekends or evenings) with a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week for at least 3 months.

From vintage tableware to Christmas ornaments, antique wall maps to brand-new blenders, day after day Habitat ReStores receive hundreds of unique donations. We’re looking for volunteers who can help us research, price, repair, and process each one to help raise funds for Habitat for Humanity!

Habitat ReStores are non-profit home improvement stores and donation centers whose proceeds are used to build safe, affordable homes in our community. We sell new and gently used furniture, building materials, appliances, and home accessories to the public at 50%-75% below retail. Through the sale of these items, we raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to build safe, affordable homes in our community.

ReStore is driven by volunteer power: every day, our volunteers turn every donated couch, cushion, and cabinet into an opportunity for homes and hope. Habitat’s ReStore offers an enjoyable, accommodating, and impactful volunteer experience at each of our three Milwaukee-area locations: Wauwatosa, Greenfield, and Franklin.

Staffed largely by volunteers, Habitat’s ReStores are eco-friendly locations to both donate and shop for home building supplies and furnishings. Habitat’s ReStores carry overstocked, discounted, new and used building materials donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals. The stores are open to the public with all items sold at a fraction of the retail cost. ReStore donations benefit Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity's mission of building simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with families in need.

We are looking for volunteers to help spruce up our garden in the front of our building. 

Help us show appreciation for our healthcare heroes by adopting a clinic! This is a wonderful opportunity to work with a group of friends, family, or colleagues to bring sweet treats or items of appreciation for one (or more) of our clinic healthcare staff. Whether it's bringing bakery goods, planning a pizza party, or donating self-care supplies, you are helping to make a difference for those on the frontlines battling COVID-19. 

**All volunteers must complete forms for background checks, provide a resume and proof of education (HS diploma or greater).  The Milwaukee Division of Children, Youth and Family Services must pre-approve all volunteers prior to being on-site.**

Overview

The Community Garden Coordinator will help grow and maintain plants, as well as inform others about the plants and answer casual inquiries. The coordinator will work outside (3-6 hours/week) from April through October. With staff supervision, volunteers prepare planting beds, plant, weed, prune and deadhead, water and harvest. This volunteer must be at least 18 years old and complete a WI Caregiver’s background check.

Qualifications

Front Entrance Ambassador -Ambassadors will assist with helping patients/visitors find their way to their appointments throughout the hospital.  You will greet patients at the front entrances, wheelchair assisting, and walking the patient to the appropriate area for his/her care.

Safety is our number one priority and many processes have been put into place to ensure our volunteers and patients are as safe as possible including proper personal protection, social distancing and screening at all our entrances. Advocates of Ozaukee is a domestic violence and sexual assault shelter that is located in a non-disclosed area for the safety of our clients. We are looking for volunteers within the community to pick-up donations from local donor's residence and transport those donations to our shelter location. Volunteers must have a valid drivers license, vehicle and car insurance. 

This volunteer opportunity allows individuals to have perform a contact-free pick-up and drop off of the donations to ensure everyone's safety at this time. You do not need to wear a mask unless you are inside of a building or outside and within 6-feet of a donor, another volunteer, or Advocates Staff. Masks will be provided, if needed!

Volunteers are needed to plant seeds, plants, water and maintain growth of vegetable plants for Green Power garden plots.  The garden is supported by U.W. Extension and you will be guided by a master gardener during your shift. 

We welcome a large variety of shifts every day of the week, and look forward to matching your schedule and ours.  We suggest approximately a two hour shift but we are flexible.   Individuals, corporate groups, community groups and families are welcome and needed to support our community!

We start our efforts in Spring and garden throughout the summer and early Fall.  Later in the season harvesting, weighing and possible delivery needed also.  Thousands of pounds of fresh produce is provide to local pantries and those in need.  

Plots are sectioned off to assist with social distancing and gardening tools are available.  If you have your favorite shovel, rake or weed trimmer, bring it along.  The garden is near 164 and Hwy 59.  We will provide complete directions upon confirming your shift.  

We do encourage you to bring sun screen, bug spray, water and work gloves.

Thank you for your interest in the Senior Medicare Patrol volunteer program. As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in the overall success of the Wisconsin SMP. The information that you will impart as a volunteer will help seniors in your community to become better health care consumers. Together we can inform and empower Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers on how to protect, detect, and report Medicare fraud, abuses and errors. By volunteering, you will have an opportunity to use your talents, skills, and networking to provide outreach and education on Medicare fraud in your community. Volunteer involvement ranges from distributing materials, staffing a booth at conferences and outreach events, to giving group presentations. A description of these three activities is below.  

All positions require some training and an orientation. Training is provided both in-person and online. We want to provide you with the information and background you’ll need to be knowledgeable and capable of responding to questions from members of the community. The last two roles also require a background check.

Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers delivered over 700 babies in the last year in Milwaukee and Milwaukee and our midwives are nationally recognized by the American College of Nurse-Midwives for their excellent outcomes.

To promote prenatal care participation and health behaviors during pregnancy, our Parenting Resource Center provides incentives and education for new parents on a variety of positive, health-promoting activities.

We would love help gathering some items that will be given to new moms and their babies to set them up for a healthy life. Your organization can help us by hosting a Mom and Baby starter kit item drive.

The Volunteer Respite Care Program is in need of donations of new board craft supplies to be used at respite events.  General supplies we regularly use/need include such things as construction paper, washable markers, fabric markers and canvas items to decorate, dry erase markers, Model Magic Modeling Clay, Playdoh, coloring books, stickers, pipe cleaners, felt sheets, foam sheets, origami paper, etc.

The benefits of reading to infants is well documented.  It has been found to contribute to the development of their growing brains, giving them a head start towards a lifelong love of reading.  Reading to infants helps language development and positively affects child development in many areas, including bonding of parent and child. 

The Start Right Program of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin- Community Service, provides prenatal and child development education through home visiting services.  Donations of new board books is needed by the Start Right Program.  These books would in turn be given to families served, providing them a tool to use towards guiding their child's development and strengthening the parent-child bond. 

The program is looking primarily for board and picture books, targeted towards children ages 0-5.  Please contact Sondra Russell at srussell@chw.org to arrange pick up/drop off of any donated books.

Thank you for your interest in learning more about the Robyn’s Nest volunteer opportunity.  We appreciate your interest to volunteer to help us toward our goal to strengthen families and to promote overall health and well-being of children. Our agency is the state’s largest, not-for-profit provider of child welfare services.   Our primary mission at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services is to work with families to ensure the safety and well-being of children. 

Our organization hosts a basic needs repository called the Robyn’s Nest that strictly operates through the ongoing assistance of volunteers who help organize and sort incoming donations and help us ran annual drives to ensure needy families receive back to school supplies and Christmas gifts.  The Robyn’s Nest houses new and gently used clothing, hygiene products, infant items, toys, books and other household goods.  Robyn’s Nest provides these items free to the families within our foster care system as well as those identified to have unmet needs through Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

The Volunteer Respite Care Program is part of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin- Community Services. The main goal of the program is to provide community based respite events for families with children with special needs and their siblings to help reduce instances of child abuse and neglect. The program offers respite care to special needs children and their siblings, ages 0-21, in a supervised, safe, and supportive day camp-like setting.  Approximately 65 children attend each event, with each child being matched with a community volunteer, totally 150 attendees.

At each event a snack and lunch are provided to the children and volunteers that join us for the day.  The sponsorship of an event meal would have a significantly positive impact on the program.  This sponsorship could come in various forms- i.e. grocery store gift card, restaurant gift card, coordination and purchasing of the meal from a local restaurant to be delivered to an event site, etc.  If this opportunity is of interest to you, please respond to this post and a program coordinator will be in contact to explore further.

Every Wednesday at the Boy Scout office we are in need of people to sort, file, make copies and stuff envelopes to help the Scouting program grow.  This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to help on their own timeline.  Any given Wednesday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. we will have some busy work for anyone interested in helping!

Need help with weeding, harvesting and building an expanded additional garden area.  The need is overwhelming for our local food pantries and churches.  Very flexible schedule.

North Point Lighthouse & Museum in Milwaukee’s Lake Park provides an historic, interesting and memorable experience for our visitors.  We’re recruiting docents to interact with visitors, provide Museum tours and to assist at events.  

Volunteering is flexible – choose to sign-up when you’d like, or you may also commit to a particular day each week.  We’re open to the public, where we provide docent-led tours – year-round on Saturdays & Sundays from 1:00-4:00 pm.  We’re also open on Thursdays and Fridays from June 20 through August 30, 2019 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.  Additionally, we need docents for our monthly Full Moon Tours and volunteers for monthly lectures.  We have fundraising events where volunteers are needed as well. 

We provide training, written materials and the opportunity to shadow current docents.  Being a docent provides public speaking experience about our historic lighthouse and the development of Milwaukee, as well as providing maritime information.  Interact with children and adults, tour groups, local visitors – as well as visitors from all over the U.S. and other countries.  Our visitors are lovely and appreciative people.

Running Rebels Community Organization is looking for a Tutor with a BA in education to work with the young people in our Wraparound Milwaukee program. Any grade level and subject area would help! 

Volunteers go to our K-12 school groups to facilitate our character & career education curriculum.  An emphasis on the following months (however it is the school year calendar) August through May and February through May.  Commitment is to facilitate 45 minutes of character career education sessions, but how many hours you are willing to give back is up to you.

PARENTS PLACE, promoting strong, healthy families through support and education! All families can benefit from our educational classes, playgroups, support groups, information & referral, and crisis support. All families can benefit from sound parenting information and support.

Be the support staff to facilitators of adult parenting classes. Help collect necessary data during classes and assist facilitator in getting questions answered. On-site training will be provided. Parenting classes are held on Monday thru Thursdays between 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Our dentists have drills but not the right skills, our doctors and nurses will fix any bruises or bumps, behavioral health will keep you calm under pressure…but what we really need is a handy carpenter to build a new ramp for all the four seasons!

Help needed to repair or build a new wooden ramp.  Our patients are the under or uninsured, our goal is to make them feel welcome from the moment they arrive.  The ramp that is currently in use needs some structural help, if not replacing.  We have patients that use walkers, canes, and wheelchairs.  Your help would provide much needed safety and access to the medical care we provide. 

We will provide all needed materials…skill and tools required. 

Are you an HGTV junkie, do you love watching home makeovers and yard crashers?  Here is your chance to grab your co-workers and spend a day in the sun.  How about putting some of that know-how to use, making visual improvements to make our patients feel welcome.

We are located in Milwaukee and could use a landscaping makeover.  If you love to “design on a dime” and uncover beauty (pick-up unsightly trash) this is the project for you!

We can provide some tools and supplies.  You supply the willingness and man power.

In english please...nettoyage means cleaning; but doesn’t it sound more glamorous in French?  Our Bread of Healing Clinic on Florist Ave. is a diamond in the rough.  Help us bring back its luster.  We need a fun and lively group to help us do some deep cleaning.  We are so busy helping our patients with ongoing medical needs the clinic gets neglected.  We want to make everyone feel welcome and special.  Your help would go along way in helping us achieve that goal!

Perform physical assessments and take health histories. Provide health promotion, counseling and education.

Administer medications, provide wound care, and perform other nursing skills within the scope of practice. 

Gather and package patient's medications and complete prescription label for dispensing by pharmacist, physician, or nurse practitioner. Organize medications in the Med Room. Take out outdated medications monthly.

Screen new patients for financial eligibility, assist with referrals to appropriate community agencies, and assist with sub-specialty medical follow-up.

Assist with patient registration, medical records preparation, data collection, and storage. Computer knowledge is required to do minimal computer entry.
