Opportunities From: Volunteers United

Volunteer: Child Enrichment Activity Assistant

Purpose for Volunteer Position: After several months of dedication and planning led by SSCHC Midwives, Sixteenth Street is excited to begin offering Group Prenatal Care to our patients! This comprehensive group care will provide essential prenatal services to our patients of a similar gestational age in a group cohort setting, focusing on promoting early access to care and providing integrated healthcare, education, and supportive services to our patients. The groups will be offered monthly, and child enrichment activities will be provided for the duration of the group visit, led by our Parenting Resource Center.  Child enrichment volunteers will assist family educators from the Parenting Resource Center in leading 2-3 planned educational activities for the children of patients registered for group prenatal care. They will then provide parents with a summary of activities completed during the session and the developmental benefits of each. Volunteers should be excited to work with children and facilitate a learning environment. Groups will be 90 minutes each plus set up and clean up.

Benefits to the volunteer: Volunteering provides an opportunity to build/practice your Spanish skills, and community engagement and/or teaching abilities while improving the health of women, infants and children in a community based healthcare setting.  This is a great resume builder for anyone interested in maternal and child health, community strengthening, social work, or early childhood education and others.  We are flexible in what projects or tasks you may want to help organize, just bring your ideas!

Current sessions are some Tuesdays 10:30 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 2:30. By late July, sessions will be added on Wednesdays.
