Legal Action represents clients in five core practice areas: public benefits, housing, family, barriers to employment, and consumer law. In addition, the firm operates a statewide Farmworker Project and a statewide legal aid to victims of human trafficking project. Staff provide high-quality and zealous representation, maintain a direct service caseload of individual clients, and contribute to the firm’s structural change litigation and advocacy.
Each year, we must turn away thousands of cases due to a lack of capacity. By volunteering for Legal Action, you join us in providing meaningful change by solving civil legal problems that help strengthen and stabilize individuals, families, and communities.
We have volunteer opportunities for legal professionals, including attorneys, paralegals, students, and other legal professionals or administrators. We also have a need for volunteer interpreters for our court-based projects.
Our Volunteer Lawyers Project Clinics offer structured limited-scope opportunities with expert staff support and supervision. These Clinics include:
- The Eviction Defense Project
- Expungement & Criminal Record Clearing Clinics
- Consumer Debt Defense
- Bankruptcy
- Driver's License Recovery Clinic
- Traditional Full Scope Representation
- Low Income Taxpayer Clinic
