For over 130 years, YWCA Southeast Wisconsin (YWCA SEW) has been addressing community needs in Wisconsin. Originally founded in 1892 as the YWCA Greater Milwaukee, in 2012, YWCA SEW increased its service area and became YWCA Southeast Wisconsin. Throughout our history, expansion in 2012 and today, YWCA SEW has been dedicated to facilitating access to opportunity for low-income, underserved individuals.
YWCA SEW’s comprehensive services help build prosperity for more than 4,000 people each year through the provision of resources (education and literacy, financial literacy, clothing, and housing) and employment training to individuals facing poverty and discrimination in Southeast Wisconsin (the majority of participants are from the Greater Milwaukee area), helping them achieve self-sufficiency.
At the same time, YWCA SEW offers racial justice education that aims to eliminate disparities that disproportionately impact people of the global majority. This combination of racial justice, economic empowerment, and workforce development programs is the YWCA SEW’s formula for creating a more just and equitable community.
