Description

February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. This month provides an excellent opportunity for our community to demonstrate its commitment to ending teen dating violence and support the numerous victims and survivors who are among us through raising awareness.

  • 1 in 3 teens in the US is a victim of physical, emotional or sexual abuse from a dating partner.
  • In Wisconsin in 2013,
    • 10% of girls who were dating reported being physically hurt by their dating partner
    • 16% reported that they had been forced to do sexual activities they did not want to (WI DPI 2013c)
  • A 2013 study found 50% of youth reporting dating violence and rape also reported attempting suicide.

FRIENDS, Inc. would be honored if you would participate in Wear Orange For Love Day to recognize February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.

Wear Orange For Love Day is on February 13, 2018.

Employers are encouraged to allow employees to wear denim with a donation of $1, $5, $10, or more. All proceeds will be donated to FRIENDS, Inc, to support victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Individuals can show support and promote awareness online with

#Orange4Love and #teenDVmonth.

We appreciate your support and thank you for your consideration of this vital issue. Now is the time to educate our communities about the seriousness of teen dating violence and the prevalence of this epidemic in our lives.
