With a new year comes new-to-us assistive technology! The Equipment Reuse Program at Independence First accepts gently used donations such as walkers, canes, mobility devices, and other items. We currently have a large stock of these devices and could use help cleaning them so they can be redistributed to and used by someone in our community in need.
Join us at our Milwaukee office at 540 S. 1st Street on Friday, February 23rd for a Reuse Item Cleaning Day! Gloves and cleaning supplies for light cleaning and sanitizing will be provided. We suggest that volunteers wear comfortable clothes that can get a little dusty. Volunteers can attend a morning shift from 9am-noon, an afternoon shift from 1-4pm, or can come and go as needed based on their availability. To sign up, contact Lorna Pecard at LPecard@independencefirst.org
No major lifting is required and cleaning can be done while seated. Minor dust may be an issue for those with respiratory sensitivities, and masks will be available for anyone who might need one. Independence First is a scent-free facility to accommodate those with chemical and environmental sensitivities, so please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, and other scented products while in the building.
Thank you for helping us support people with disabilities in our community, and we hope to see you soon!
