Description

Buckthorn, particularly common and glossy buckthorn, is a highly invasive plant in Wisconsin, posing significant threats to native ecosystems. Introduced as a hedge plant, it has spread aggressively, outcompeting native vegetation and disrupting natural habitats. Buckthorn's dense growth, early spring leaves, and late-season leaf retention create dense shade, hindering the growth of other plants, especially tree seedlings. It also produces berries that are attractive to birds, but the seeds are spread by the birds, contributing to buckthorn's rapid spread.

We need your help in removing Buckthorn from our parks.
