COVID-19 is a serious reminder for just how important it is to make decisions about health care. When someone is incapacitated due to unexpected illness or injury, doctors call on the closest relative to make medical decisions or a guardianship may be needed--unless there is a power of attorney for health care in place. For former foster and kinship youth, their closest relative may not be the person they trust to make life and death decisions. That is why it is especially important for former foster and kinship youth to consider a power of attorney for health care.
We need your help! Kids Matter Inc. is offering free advice and assistance on filling out power of attorney for health care forms and is seeking attorneys to assist with the event. As a volunteer, you will attend a training on the Power of Attorney for health care and assist young adults with completing the forms during the clinic. All participation is virtual. No prior experience in estate planning is required. Kids Matter Inc. will provide a virtual training and have staff available to answer any questions. Help former foster and kinship youth prepare for the unexpected by volunteering with Kids Matter Inc.
