At La Casa de Esperanza's VITA program, we offer free tax preparation services to individuals and families with low-to-moderate income, providing a pathway to financial stability by utilizing tax refunds for savings, debt reduction, and asset acquisition (such as a car, home, or improved credit). Additionally, we serve as a gateway to other community resources. The role can be performed either in-person or virtually.
Volunteers in this role are tasked with welcoming clients to their tax appointments, duplicating their tax documents and identification cards (government-issued photo ID and Social Security cards), guiding clients through the completion of their intake forms ensuring all questions are answered with “Yes” or “No”, and delivering the files to the tax preparers for review. Intake Screener volunteers must obtain certifications through the IRS, and our site provides training sessions to assist with this certification process.
